Meeting The Client Brief (U3: P5, M4, D1)

Learning outcome 4 (Unit 3) - Be able to carry out post-production techniques and processes for an original media product to a client brief (M4 and D1)

Front cover:
One tool I used while editing my front cover was the line tool. I used this tool in order to give my masthead a more professional and cleaner look. The reason I did this is because from my feedback my audiences feedback told me that my masthead wasn't clear whether it said "PACE" or "PAGE" so therefore I had to edit it to make it more clear as brand awareness is an important part to a magazines success. The connotation for this is that the red colour I have used for my masthead creates a fiery tone and creates a sense of passion that will engage the reader and gives them a sense that those themes are what "PACE" is all about.

These are the original and edited mastheads which in the bottom left corner of the C you can see where the line tool has been used in order to give the letter a clearer shape.

This links to the client brief because it helps reflect the vibrancy of the music scene developing locally. This is through the look the masthead has. I would consider it quite edgy and cool which reflects the current type of people that are developing this music scene so therefore the magazine might appeal more to them helping increase the magazines brand awareness and total sales.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Another tool I used was the eye dropper. I used this tool in order to make sure that all of the colours matched for each different thing I created. This allowed me to give my magazine a clear and professional look to it because if the colours were not the same then it would make the front cover look messy and low in terms of detail. This tool created meaning because it would have meant that the professional look of my front cover helped attract audiences to read it as they'd consider it high quality. The attention to detail this connotes is that the magazine in general is to a high quality in terms of journalism and the quality of writing it has through the use of the eye dropper tool and making sure all the colours match.

I used the eye dropper tool in order to source the colour of my masthead so when I added in lines and shapes to make it look more professional it made sure all of the colours matched.

This links to the client brief because the eye dropper tool allows me to have more success with my online and print based magazine because if the masthead is the same and people can recognise it whether its on print or online then it allows me to increase the brand awareness of the magazine and at the same time keeping it professional looking.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thirdly I used the flip tool in order to flip the main image in my front cover. This was because it allowed me to put my cover lines in different places and overall give my magazine a more clear cut look. This created meaning because it also made the image have a little bit more eye contact which would have created a connection between the artist and the reader which is a tool I could have used to hook readers and increase sales. The connotation this brings is that having as much eye contact as possible gives the reader the feeling of actually communicating to the artist which entices them to read on and build more of a connection to our magazine. Flipping the image created the better sense of eye contact that having it the other way round didn't bring.

I used this tool in order to flip my main image so that my cover lines could be placed in a more professional layout.

This linked to the client brief as it kept my content original and new as by me editing it it did not change the fact I still created these images in order to use them in my magazine. Because I kept this originality it meant that people would be able to associate my images and content with the brand "PACE" therefore increasing their chances to repeat purchase. Another way this links to the client brief is that my artist is a North London artist so therefore meet the client brief.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Finally another tool I used was making an outer glow for my masthead. This was done in order to create a more bold and clear title which stands out on the page. This therefore meant it was easier to catch the audiences attention and allow them to associate and become aware of the brand, "PACE". This created meaning because if the audience are better aware of what they are reading then if they enjoy it theres more of a chance they will repeat purchase and buy another copy as they are engaged with the magazine. The white outer glow connotes a vibrancy to the title which links to the clients brief when they ask for the magazine to relate to the vibrant music scene developing in the local area.

This tool allowed me to make the masthead stand out and captivate the readers attention.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Double page spread:
One tool I used for my double page spread was the magnetic lasso tool. I used this in order to cut around my image and remove the background off the original image so that it fitted neater on my page. This created meaning as it aided in giving my double page spread a neater and more professional look to it. This tool allowed for me to also have more space on the page to work with which allowed me to play around with the article and include an extra question and have an introduction paragraph. The original image connotes to the reader a sense of reggae through the colour scheme of the background so therefore I used the tool to remove the background and replace it with a colour scheme that connotes a more rap and hip-hop feel as vibrant colours are popular in the current scene through female rappers such as Iggy azalea and Cardi B. The patch effect I have created on the image is that it gives off a sense of free flowing ness which relates to the genre as rap is all about free flowing music and beats.

These images show what the original picture looked like and what the image looked on the double page spread, as you can see the background image is not visible in the double page spread as the background had to many colours and was not a good fit for the double page.

This linked to the client brief because by me editing it, it kept to being original and new as it did not change the fact I still created these images in order to use them in my magazine. Because I kept this originality it meant that people would be able to associate my images and content with the brand "PACE" therefore increasing
their chances to repeat purchase.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The next tool I used was the patch tool. This was in order to make my background image look more original. I used the patch tool to take out the star from the middle so that my background image was just a red, yellow and green wall. This therefore also meant that I protected myself from any copyright as the original image was the Senegal flag. This created meaning as it kept my page looking neat and professional which is something that makes "PACE" stand out from its competitors. The connotation this gives to the reader is that because the colour scheme is the same as the front cover it creates a sense of identify for the magazine through the colour scheme which makes the reader connect with the magazine through its consistent branding of its identity.

This linked to the client brief as it meant I had created original content which is something the client asked for. This allowed me to keep to a similar colour scheme as my front cover so that when readers turned to these pages they would be able to associate it with the front cover and the exclusive interview we were marketing.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The third tool I used was the shape tool. I used this tool in order to create a black rectangle behind my article so that the text stood out on the page and was a lot clearer to read. This created meaning as it  helped make my double page spread look more professional and clearer for the audience so therefore it made them more engaged when reading a text heavy page. The connotation this gives to the reader is that it makes them feel as if the colour scheme of the article that matches to the shape behind it gives off a slick and cool look to it which gives them the impression that "PACE" is also a cool and slick magazine which also relates to the target audience of the magazine.

This linked to the client brief because it allowed me to use yellow and white as my text colours which you could consider to be vibrant colours which relates to the requirement of reflecting the vibrancy of the music scene developing locally. This therefore allows me to target North London as one of the main selling areas of the magazine as it is directly related to the locals of North London.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The time tool I used was a drop shadow. This tool was used in order to create an effect on the headline of my double page spread. I did this in order to capture the readers attention and to give the page a better more professional look. The drop shadow allowed for my text to look better which meant that it was the first thing the readers were drawn too which then got them excited for the rest of the page. This creates meaning because If the page looks more professional then it will allow for readers to start associating our brand with professional and high quality products which will further allow us to branch out into new areas through our brand exposure being higher. Therefore we can start to attract more prominent artists perhaps not just from North London. The connotation this brings to the magazine is that although there are artists who bring vibrancy and colour to the rap scene there are also artists who bring a darker theme such as XXXtentacion and Lil peep so therefore the darker shadow to the text gives the reader the impression that the magazine will be covering all types of rap artist both vibrant and dark.

This links to the client brief because the clear and neat look mixed with the colours that blend together reflects the vibrancy of the music scene developing locally in North London. It also meets the clients brief because the artist I feature is a prominent North London artist who is well known in the developing scene, for helping develop what it is today. This is therefore good as it will entice North London locals to buy a copy to read what the North London artist has to say and to see what else is featured in the magazine.
