Plan and develop pre-production materials (U3: P3, M2)
Learning outcome 2 (Unit 3) - Be able to plan and develop pre-production materials for an original media product to a client brief (P3 and M2)
Location 1 - The nomadic community and Fleet Street Hill
This talent consent and release form is necessary as it will provide me with legal protection to use the images of my talent and shows that they have agreed to me photographed by me in order to be used for my magazine.
This location release form allows me to use the O2 academy in Brixton as one of my location for my magazine shoots. This document will protect me against any legal action because it shows that the representative of the O2 academy in Brixton have agreed to let me shoot at this location.
Location 1 - The nomadic community and Fleet Street Hill
This wall is my chosen background because it creates a vibrant and bright feel to the shots that will attract a readers attention.
Location recce: Is the location suitable for production?
This location is suitable for production because the location is in a less populated part of shoreditch which will make it easier for me to shoot. However because this location is outside I can not control factors such as the weather or lighting that will impact the quality of my photos. Because my location is not to easily accessible and takes about an hour to get to by public transport it also limits the amount of time we will have to take our shots due to the potential scheduling we would need to take into consideration.

Moodboard:
My moodboard shows a wide range of artists from both London and the rest of the world to indicate the type of artists that could feature in my magazine in order to keep the content fresh and exciting. It also includes a map of London which is included to show the main distribution areas of my magazine.
Fonts:
Title of magazine and fonts:
When choosing the title of the magazine we had two objectives which were to pick something with a memorable and easy to pronounce name. This was important to us because we wanted to give the magazine the easiest chance to become a household name and a prominent part of the rap scene and even the wider music scene as a whole. With this in mind we decided to call our magazine “PACE”. Pace was chosen because it also has a lot of connotations in rap for example we liked that Pace also related to the “upcoming vibrant music scene” from the brief, due to its ‘fast pace growth’. This then also means something in itself to because of the quick pace we hope our magazine will grow. Along side this pace is also very important to artists and fans of the genre because a good pace to a song can determine how successful it is. When deciding the title other options we looking at were “recognise” due to it also having witty connotations to rap and also meeting our own requirements of it being memorable and easy to pronounce. However we decided “PACE” was the best option due to it having more connotations and also being a shorter name which left us more space to use on our front cover.
Font styles:
For my Title I wanted to chose a font that had a edgy and cool style to fit with the stereotype of people that listen to rap music, typically cool teenagers. I also wanted something that had a new style feel due to the upcoming and new music scene developing in North London especially. Therefore the style I chose was ‘Campus’. The name also adds that link between the title and relating to the target audience my magazine has of young adults who might be at a university or college. However during post production I will edit my masthead font to make it have less of a distressed look to it as suggested by the feedback I received from my pitch.
For my body line I decided to use a font that was clear to read and also engaging to look at so that readers don’t turn to a heavily worded page and loose focus of where they are or feel as if the page is over complicated. Therefore the font I decided to use was “Lemon Milk”. The text also had a smooth feel to it which helped in its case as it made it clear to see and also match the young and easy feel the magazine would have.
Finally for my cover lines I decided to go for a font that wouldn’t take the attention away from the masthead or front cover pictures initially but would also stand out from the body line font I chose. Therefore I decided to use the font “Marvellous Sans”. This met the requirements because it is a thinner font than the mastheads but also because it will be bigger in size it will attract attention from readers which is essential in order to get them to read on.
Colour schemes:
I chose this colour scheme because I believe the colours all work well together and create a sense of professionalism to it as they are quite clear and bold colours.
Hand drawn sketches:
The layouts of my front cover and double page spread are done in this way because it gives a clear view of where everything will be. These layouts were chosen because it allows for the reader to focus on one thing while not getting distracted by anything else on the page giving the magazine an easy feel to it which will benefit the reader and make them more inclined to repeat purchase.

Gantt chart for production:
Ethical issues:
Discrimination - Discrimination is something that could impact the production of my magazine in a number of different ways such as sexism, racism and ageism. This could impact my production because some of my audience could feel alienated from the magazine if they feel as if they are being discriminated against. To prevent this I will make sure my magazine is inclusive and covers content from people of all characteristics.
Appropriate language - Appropriate language is something I must consider for my magazine in order to make sure my magazine is being read by the maximum amount of people because there could be some of my audience who would feel alienated from the magazine due to any offensive language I include. To prevent this I will make sure all text in each edition is safe to be sent out to the audience in order to prevent anyone getting offended.
Appropriate images - Appropriate images is an ethical issue that would need to be accounted for because I would need to make sure my magazine is being read by the maximum amount of people because there could be some of my audience who would feel alienated from the magazine due to any offensive imagery. To prevent this I will make sure all images in each edition is safe to be sent out to the audience in order to prevent anyone getting offended.
Keeping my magazine away from the negative stigma of rap - This is an important ethical issue I would need to consider in order to give my magazine a good chance of gaining a loyal fan base and attracting new consumers. The way I will prevent this is by focusing my articles on the positive side of rap for example an article could be done around Stormzy and the work he does for youth in his community by giving them university grants.
Legal issues:
Copyright - Copyright is an issue I would need to consider because if my content is not original then it could mean someone might have grounds to go against us legally due to a copyright infringement. To prevent this I will make sure all of my content is original and my own in order to stop this but also in order to keep my content fresh and exciting for my readers.
Libel - Libel is a published false statement that is damaging to a person's reputation. This is important to consider when creating my magazine because if I publish any libel then legal action can be taken against the magazine. To prevent this I will try to fact check every damaging piece of evidence I write about to avoid any libel issues.
