Evaluate The Response (U21: D1)

Learning outcome 3 (Unit 21) - Be able to pitch ideas on a proposed media product and respond to questions (D1)

Main pitch Feedback:
Useful feedback:
Good name with rational
Distressed look to masthead font (Fill in gaps in font)
Masthead looked like it said PAGE not PACE
change background colour
keep masthead contained and "Put it in a box"
consider branding
arguably not enough content for weekly magazine to be high quality
have a print version every monthly and an updated website/app. (Form of branding the monthly hard copies
good USP that leads into the whole website idea
USP not clear in presentation (Make it a big thing)
Games idea not fit for primary demographic
Put games idea on website not in hard copy

Useful feedback and how I will develop my production:
Editing the Masthead in Photoshop:
Editing my masthead in Photoshop is the first step I will take to further improve my magazine. The feedback I received suggested the title had a 'Distressed' look to it which indicates it is not very appealing to consumers. What I will edit will be to cover in the gaps which feature in the text to make it more bold and stand out more. Another change I will make is I will fix the spacing between each letter as in the case of the word "PACE" the gap between the A and C is larger than the gap between the C and E. This will give it a more professional and neater look which will allow customers to associate our magazine with these characteristics. Finally I will also change the way the C looks in the title as from the feedback we can see that it looks more like a G than a C making it harder for people to easily recognise my magazine.

Changing the background colour of my magazine:
The second thing I will do to improve my magazine is change the background colour from a teal to a darker colour, perhaps even black. This is because the Teal colour I had on my mockups didn't look very appealing and instead made the magazine look like it was of worser quality. The most likely option I will switch to will be Black. This is because with the black background it will mean that the colours I want to use for my text such as white and red will bounce off it really well and stand out to anyone looking at it.

Have a print version every monthly and an updated website/app (Form of branding the monthly hard copies):
From this feedback I understood that my chosen Genre although wide, would not be able to consist of high quality content that is new and unseen with each edition if we decided to go weekly so therefore I would keep the magazine to monthly hard copies to ensure that the readers get a high quality with each purchase. However to ensure we engage with our readers regularly to keep them interested in the magazine we will create a new website and app that will updated every day with content and also will be used as a way to promote the hard copies of the magazine. With this we will also take out the games idea we had for the hard copies and move it into the website and app to ensure that the more hardcore fans that are more likely to buy the hard copies don't feel as if our magazine has a childish feel to it.

Good USP that leads into the whole website idea:
Finally this piece of feedback I received showed me that the idea I had to allow for my magazine to connect readers and artists provides as a good USP and will help me attract readers to my magazine. Therefore I will advertise the USP more and make sure that casual consumers are aware of the connection we made for them. To develop this idea further the USP I have is that I will be connecting fans to the artist by giving the fans the option to ask questions via our website/social media platforms. Responses from the artists will then be printed in the magazine and there could be a possibility to record their responses and upload them on our website.

Main pitch Feedback:
Not useful feedback:
Good use of a different font for masthead from what he usually sees - I will be keeping the same font and colour choices
Narrow focus geographically not all Rap artists will be in England each week - I don't feel that this is useful because I will no longer be creating a weekly magazine, therefore will have enough content to cover it monthly.
Put further thought into games before promoting it - I won't act on this because I am no longer adding the games into the magazine, but will instead be putting them on the website.
